Margate is a very interesting place. This old little village is located only 20 minutes away from Hobart and still allows you to feel the nature and rural side of Tasmania.
If you pay attention, you might see some beautiful wedge tail eagles and hawks.
Since we have been here we had regular encounters with Blue Wrens, quolls, little rabbits, Eastern Barred bandicoots, Bennetts wallabies, brush tail and ring tail possums, and the swift parrot, a critically endangered species which breeds only in Tasmania.
With a bit of luck you might even spot an echidna!
You will see and hear crows during the day and the funny kookaburras.
Our Cottage is set in beautiful gardens where a strand of century-old poplar trees stands impressive guard, shading the western boundary. With harmonious colour and heavenly fragrance from roses, lavanders, bulbs, lupins, fuchsias and perennials alike, this cool-climate garden invites a peaceful stroll.
Last but not least, our peaceful rural retreat surrounded by timbered hills and mountains, borders a pristine wilderness river making its journey through the valley from nearby ever-present Mt. Wellington. At the banks of our river you may be lucky enough to see a platypus whilst embracing the isolation, serenity and the pure Tasmanian air. Merely just metres from your comfortable cottage!
